Migrate CloudCockpit Reseller Portal

Migrate Reseller CloudCockpit Portal

The CloudCockpit infrastructure that enables Resellers (Indirect Resellers) to have portals with their own custom domains is being upgraded.
If your Resellers are using the old DNS configuration, please follow these steps to migrate their portals to the new system.
We recommend coordinating the migration process with the Reseller to minimize downtime and performing the migration during off-peak hours to reduce impact on users.

DNS (Domain Name System)
Serves as the internet's phone book, translating human-readable domain names into machine-readable IP addresses.

CNAME Record (Canonical Name)
A type of DNS record that acts as an alias, redirecting one domain name to another, simplifying navigation for users.

TXT Record
A type of DNS record containing text-based information about a domain.

Migration Process

Steps for CSP (1 of 2): Generate new DNS records

The CSP (Indirect Provider) must perform these actions to initiate the migration process:

1. Log in to the CSP CloudCockpit portal.
2. Navigate to the Resellers page and locate the specific reseller.
3. Access the reseller's account by clicking on their company name.

4. Go to Administration > Portal Settings.

5. Click Register to obtain the DNS records (TXT and CNAME) generated for this specific Reseller portal.

6. Copy the TXT and CNAME information and provide it to the Reseller for DNS configuration.
  1. Do not use the example DNS records shown in this article. The DNS records are uniquely generated by CloudCockpit for reach reseller.
  2. The DNS records are valid for 7 days, after which they will have to generated again.

Steps for Resellers: Configuring the new DNS records

The Reseller Portal will be inaccessible during this process until configuration is complete.

1. Access your domain's DNS management console.
2. Remove the old CNAME record for the CloudCockpit custom domain.
3. Add the new CNAME record, pointing to the provided value.

The exact configuration may vary depending on your DNS provider.
Some may require the full address, in this example resellercustomdomain.cloudcockpit.works instead of just the subdomain resellercustomdomain.

4. Add the new TXT record.

The exact configuration may vary depending on your DNS provider.
Similar to the CNAME, some DNS providers may require the full address, which in this example is _dnsauth.resellercustomdomain.cloudcockpit.works. while in other it's only _dnsauth.resellercustomdomain

Steps for CSP (2 of 2): Validation

After the reseller configures the new DNS records, the CSP should then validate the changes:

1. Log in to CloudCockpit CSP portal.
2. Navigate to the Resellers page and access the reseller's account.
3. Go to Administration > Portal Settings.
4. Click Validate to conclude the process.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues during the migration process:
  1. Consult your DNS provider documentation to check if the new records match their configuration requirements
  2. Double-check all DNS entries for typos
  3. Ensure you've removed all old DNS entries related to the CloudCockpit portal.
  4. Allow time for DNS propagation (can take up to 60 minutes or more in some cases).
  5. If problems persist, contact CloudCockpit support for assistance.

Changing the portal custom domain

To change the custom domain associated with the Reseller Portal, it will only be necessary for the CSP to change the custom domain in the Reseller Portal Settings and follow the same steps that were used to migrate the portal.
